Fillings

Fillings are used to fill cavities - holes in your tooth - caused by decay

NHS Fillings use a silver coloured material known as Amalgam, which is made up of mixture of metals such as silver, tin and copper

Private Fillings use a tooth coloured material known as Composite which is made up of a mixture of resin and glass.

You can expect the following during a filling:

• Your dentist will numb the area around the tooth with a local anaesthetic
• Your dentist will remove any decayed or damaged parts of the tooth
• Your dentist will prepare the tooth for the filling by cleaning and drying the area
• Your dentist will fill the cavity or damage with filling material
• Your dentist will ensure that your bite and overall feel of the mouth is right
